After quite an interesting winter here in Texas, spring has finally come! It’s important to keep in mind that throughout the fall and winter, many areas of your home tend to be neglected or just aren’t used as frequently—which is exactly why adding some helpful home maintenance tasks to your spring cleaning list is the best way to prepare for the change of seasons!

From the necessary outdoor landscaping and fix-ups to some much-needed interior work, we’ve gathered a great list of home improvement tips guaranteed to prepare you for spring:

  • Start from the outside – it’s likely that the exterior of your Texas home as been through some pretty brutal wear and tear. Take a walk around your property—inspect your caulking, the windows and replace anything that seems damaged or weathered. Be sure to replace any missing shingles and clean out your gutters in time for the spring showers!
  • Tend to your landscaping – especially for safety reasons, be sure to clear away any debris such as excess leaves, fallen tree limbs, etc. Clear off your sidewalk and keep walkways free from old garden hoses or spring-time tools.
  •  With the warmer air and change of seasons upon us, it’s time to start planning ahead for those hot summer days where air conditioning is the first thing on your mind! Although spring may seem a bit premature to start thinking about air conditioning, it’s certainly wise to service your home’s cooling system before the temperature spikes.
  • Schedule your HVAC Inspection – your HVAC specialist is prepared to look for a number of warning signs that may signal that there is a problem with your HVAC system, these include: rust or corrosion, standing water in drain pans, water stains on equipment, signs of overheating, improperly sealed duct, and more…don’t wait until the last minute to review your cooling system!

Besides the physical modifications and improvements you can make, the change of seasons provides the perfect opportunity for you to review their current Texas homeowners insurance policy! Taking the time to reevaluate your home insurance is a great way to determine if you are receiving all of the discounts available, need to increase coverage liability for structural reasons, or to just ensure that you have adequately protected your personal possessions.
